THE DOVE PROJECT
|

GRAY DOVE #15
Granite On Steel
24x24x24
SOLD
|
Each rock dove I make is a little prayer for peace.
Observing the rising level of fear and hatred abroad in the world, my only
possible response is to use the skills and materials and ideas I have been
given to increase the inventory of positive messages, in a desperate
attempt at achieving balance.

DOVE
#12
Marble
10x10x6
SOLD
|
Hope for fear.
Giving for taking.
Love for hate.
Peace for war.
No one can change the course of events, or change
the minds of others. |
|
Each person can, and must, do what
little things they are able to nudge the balance toward what they
believe to be right.
"In the face of our current national tragedy, the
invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, I have chosen to make sculptural
representations of doves."

I have been releasing doves of
different sizes from different rocks, for many years. Part of what
I believe is my general obligation to life. |
|
|
"Since 2003, I have carved over 60 doves, and
sold and given away most of them.
My task was to carve 100 rock doves, and then
to see how many more I can make, or if it is necessary to redefine
my goal.
Now that our occupation of Iraq has diminished,
I am pondering what to do next. I think I'll just keep trying for
the 100."

peace
or
work a little harder in its service, or just be reminded that we
each have a right to say something.

Dove Project @ Stone Bard |
"We can never have too many doves. Since we started this project, if
you purchased one of mine, half of the purchase price has gone to a
charity dedicated to helping the victims of our nations wars.
Mercy Corps, American Friends Service Committee, and Care have all
received these donations, and some of the Dove Adopters have given
more, on their own. I have been greatly touched by these generous
souls, and sincerely hope that we have done some good.I now find
myself less able to keep up my end of the donations, due to many
factors, and regret that I can no longer promise to make those 50%
gifts. I will donate as much as I can from these Rock Dove sales,
and encourage others to do the same. Thank you.
Peace and Love,
Tracy Powell, Spring 2012"
